AniCueAnime is organized into four seasons a year, and new shows premiere in waves at the start of each one. The four anime seasons
Anime seasons follow the Japanese broadcast calendar and line up roughly with the actual seasons of the year. Each one runs about three months:
- Winter starts in early January
- Spring starts in early April
- Summer starts in early July
- Fall (Autumn) starts in early October
So a 12-episode show airing weekly fills almost exactly one season. When people call a series a "summer 2026 anime," they mean it premiered in that July to September window.
When exactly do new shows premiere?
Most new series and returning sequels premiere in the first two to three weeks of the season. Early January, early April, early July, and early October are the busy stretches. It is not a single day. Premieres are spread across those weeks, each show landing on its own weekday and time slot, which it then keeps for the rest of the season.
That last part is the good news for tracking. Unlike manga, which has no fixed schedule, an airing anime is highly predictable. Once a show premieres, the next episode almost always lands the same weekday and time every week until the season ends.
How to see what is coming and not miss a premiere
Premiere week is when it is easiest to lose track. Dozens of shows arrive at once, and the one you were anticipating gets buried in the flood. A couple of ways to stay on top of it:
